After disembarking flights to Dallas, travelers have the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful nature conservatories, gardens and hiking trails in the Southwest. Before setting out on such activities, always remember to wear weather-appropriate clothing, suitable footwear, and bring plenty of water. Cedar Ridge Preserve Trail
Owned by the City of Dallas, the Cedar Ridge Preserve Trail comprises over 633 acres of forest property. Hikers will never grow tired of eight different hiking trails that take up six scenic miles. When walking, hiking or just enjoying nature here, be aware that the Preserve is located almost 800 feet above sea level.
Harry S. Moss Trail
The Harry S. Moss Trail is lovingly maintained by the Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association, better known by the initials “DORBA.” There are five miles of natural surface trails designed specifically for off-road biking activities. In addition to the lush greenery surrounding them, bikers have a choice of straight distance or multiple looping trails.
L.B. Houston Trail
These natural routes are found adjacent to the Elm Fork section of the Trinity River. Additionally maintained by the Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association, these unrefined surface trails are located in Northwest Dallas within the Elm Fork and L.B. Houston Greenbelts. Simply get on your mountain bike and choose between trails on either Wildwood Road or the California Crossing Road.
Texas Buckeye Trail
Be amazed as you observe the natural environment on this almost 2-mile-long nature trail. Located within the famous Great Trinity Forest in Dallas, you’ll join true nature lovers here. Built by a team of volunteers, the trail was named for its impressive concentration of native Texan Buckeye trees.
The Texas Buckeye Trail is extremely popular with hikers. Noted for an array of wild flowers during the Spring season, the trails provide a unique look at species of birds and wildlife found only in the Southwestern United States. Ideal viewing areas are located all along the trail, which culminates just south of Bexar Street.

Trinity Forest Trail
Walk, hike or simply take in the refreshing air all along the Trinity Forest Trail. The trail itself extends over 4.5 miles. It includes magnificent trees, freshwater ponds and a sense of solitude that stays with you long after your visit. To view the Trinity River, make a point of crossing the bridge that extends over the water and enjoy the view.
Some of the finest trailheads will be found at the Audubon Center, located within the Trinity Forest Natural Preserve. In addition to activities for birders, the Audubon Center offers instructive programs for all ages. If you’re thinking of planning a party or event while visiting Dallas, know that lovely indoor rooms and outdoor areas of the Audubon Center are regularly rented out to the public.
