Nonna
This contemporary Italian restaurant, created by Julian Barsotti, sits on the edge of Highland Park. If you’re looking for a dining room that is both intimate and conversational, you’ll find no better place that also offers fantastic cuisine. By combining American and Italian ingredients, Barsotti changes his menu with each season. While you may enjoy his terrific spuntini this week, next week that dish may be off the menu, and you’ll find wood-fired, Roman-style pizza instead. With the almost exclusively Italian wine list, you’re sure to find something delicious to eat and drink at Nonna.
Casa Rubia
Chefs Omar Flores and Jonn Baudoin created Casa Rubio to showcase their favorite modern Spanish dishes. Located in Trinity Groves, this restaurant offers sophisticated tapas, salt-cured tuna and crispy artichoke hearts with saffron aioli as its signature dishes. However, the menu changes frequently, even switching the type of paella served family-style every night. You’ll find a great list of sherries and Spanish wines that complement the lardo-wrapped pickled vegetables and chicken liver mousse.
The Mansion Restaurant
Operating since 1980, The Mansion Restaurant, a legend in Texas, is sophisticated and innovative at the same time. Executive Chef Tom Parlo presents roasted pheasant on the same menu as shepherd’s pie and fillet of bison. When you’re finished gorging yourself on shaved raw matsutake mushrooms and root vegetables in melting lardo, consider choosing a dessert prepared by prized pastry chef Nicolas Blouin. A wine will even be selected for you by the house sommelier.
Cadot Restaurant
This French-inspired restaurant gives visitors a slice of Paris with its simple but elegant dishes. The sea scallops in champagne sauce and lobster salad with an avocado-citrus vinaigrette are excellent, but the desserts in particular, steal the show at Cadot. We recommend the Opera Cake or the Apricot Texas Goat Cheese Ravioli with an orange reduction and chocolate sauce for a truly unforgettable experience.
Pappas Bros. Steakhouse
Wine lovers will flock to this Pappas Bros., since it is the only restaurant in Texas to claim Wine Spectator’s Grand Award for excellence. Pappas offers steak house favorites with a southern twist. Try their Lobster Deviled Eggs, Turtle Gumbo, and Veal Chop for a real Texas dining experience. The Milk Chocolate Mousse with Toasted Marshmallow in the comfortable yet elegant Pappas atmosphere will top off your night.
