Buttermilk Kitchen
When it comes to using local products, the Buttermilk Kitchen takes the cake! The kitchen strives to source locally as much as possible, receiving all of their pasture raised eggs (about 5,000 a week) from 150 year old family farm, White Oak Pastures. With a seasonally changing specials board, take a bite out of sweet pancakes, savory omelets or, of course, a fried chicken biscuit. This is Atlanta, after all!
You’ll find staples like granola bowls, made with house-roasted granola of course, while the oatmeal is organic stone rolled. Oh and those delicious pancakes, they’re topped with house-made butter and natural maple syrup. Sure you can have a glass of milk only the milk served here is Southern Swiss or Treehouse almond milk. You might opt for a warm beverage with loose organic leaf teas or a bottomless cup of coffee. Our favorite part of this place? We actually have two. The restaurant is peanut-free so those with allergies can relax. The final topper is breakfast is served all day. Hooray!
Sun In My Belly
We love the name and its promise of a little bit of heaven in the tummy. Sun In My Belly serves up some sumptuous morning dishes including a sunny side up number accompanied by mushroom bechamel cream. It’s the twists on old favorites that’s so enchanting. Scrambled eggs are edified with herbed boursin cheese. French toast is elevated with a thick, fluffy Challah bread stuffed with honeyed ricotta. In good Southern taste you can order shrimp and grits served with pork sausage and parmesan crouton.
This airy, sunny and bright spot fills up fast, but not to worry brunch starts at 8 AM and goes on until 3 PM. It’s charmingly close tables lend an inviting feel as does the eclectic crowd of singles, families, young and old. In warm weather you can even sit outside and watch passerby’s cruise the Atlanta Beltline. No wonder this restaurant made the 2011 list of The 100 Best Brunch Spots in America.
Home Grown
Free coffee refills, fluffy biscuits and crispy chicken? Sign us up. Head to Home Grown if you want a slice of Southern breakfast perfection! Even a former president couldn’t resist the down-home feel and warm welcome.
If you’re dining solo you’ll still be in good company. Just grab a stool at the breakfast bar and feast next to a friendly local. Try a light starter like their fried green tomatoes. It may be a famous book and film title, but here they are a real live deliciously crusted menu item done just right. Afterwards, delve into the goodness of their fried chicken and (get this) sausage gravy dish. Mmm is an understatement. We’re talking their dish that won city-wide acclaim.
With a mantra that includes “people matter most . . . seasonal makes sense … quality governs” and their dedication to sourcing from local farmers, you will taste why fresh ingredients make all the difference. Menu items are built around in-season foods. You might land the their heavily requested French toast sandwich stuffed with spinach, bacon, and farm-ripened tomatoes. Or get in a griddle kind of groove with their grilled cheese meltdown. Save room for chocolate chip pancakes topped with home-made whipped cream. Whatever you stake will be fresh and heart-warmingly good. Don’t forget to grab a jar of their locally loved pimento cheese as a yummy take along.
Another Broken Egg
If breakfast summons thoughts of eggs, strut down to Another Broken Egg where they’ll serve them up in your favorite style and some delicious ways you’ve never imagined. Signature eggs Benedict have ingredients ranging from smoked salmon and whipped cream cheese to crabmeat and asparagus. Meanwhile, everybody’s got love for the lobster and brie omelette topped with champagne butter sauce. Veggie lovers will be more than satisfied with omelette that mix feta cheese with bell peppers and mushrooms and other yummy vegetables.
There’s more to munch than the fare of fine feathered friends. Try their Southern Crabstack or Shrimp and Grits dishes if you want to go egg-less. The burgers and sandwiches are heavy-hitters, too. Served up like picture-perfect pieces of art, you get the feeling these chefs put pride into every plate.
We have to give kudos to the kids menu. It reflects real thought. Little ones can order up PB&J on Belgian waffles, pancakes topped with M&M’s, or the kids choice scrambled eggs with cheese. Kids can choose their most-liked drink. Bonus points for all-healthy drink options.
Drinks for grown-ups are also splendid. Decipher between concoctions on the spirited mornings beverage menu. We won’t judge for pre 4 O’clock orders of alcohol. They’re so tastefully done and complement the cuisine so well, why not have a sip?
