Boston has a ton of great neighborhoods and there’s no way better way to explore them than to hit up their lively dive bars. You can find the cheapest drinks and a good time, and you’re sure to leave with a few new friends as well. Here are a few great dive bars that can make your Boston experience a whole lot more memorable.
THE TAM
Are you looking to take a nostalgic trip back in time? Step into The Tam, located near Boston Common in the Theater District. If you like your drinks cheap and with a nod to old Boston, stop on in. There’s no food available on site but the bar will allow you to bring in pizza from the restaurant next door. Remember: The Tam is cash only and there is an ATM on location.
EDDIE C’S
This bar has almost legendary status in the Maverick Square neighborhood. It’s everything you would want in a dive bar and comes complete with a jukebox that blasts out a steady stream of great rock tunes. There are $10 pitchers of PBR and well drinks that are very generous with the alcohol. This is another cash-only bar.
SULLIVAN’S TAP
Sullivan’s Tap is a famed hangout of the Boston Bruins faithful. The establishment claims to have the “longest bar in town.” It’s a great place to meet up before or after a B’s game and there are plenty of pool tables and arcade games to keep you occupied as well.
MODEL CAFE
The Model Cafe is located in the Alliston neighborhood. You can find all types of people who frequent the joint, from hipsters to hardcore sports fans. On Friday and Saturday nights, the bar becomes a dance club. Like all great dive bars, Model Cafe delivers the goods with cheap drinks.
SILHOUETTE LOUNGE
Silhouette Lounge might take the crown for Boston’s top dive bar. It offers cheap drinks, free popcorn, pool tables, and a jukebox that has a vast collection of songs.
DELUX CAFE
DeLux Cafe is a rarity among dive bars as it actually has a kitchen with great food. The menu has items such as blackened sea bass and hanger steak. The South End bar offers a great kitschy atmosphere with its enviable Elvis memorabilia.
SHANNON TAVERN
Looking for a bubble hockey table game? The Shannon Tavern is the only place in town where you’ll find one. If a game of pool is more your thing, the bar does have a few tables for use by patrons. There’s plenty of cheap drinks and lively music to help you enjoy your time at this tavern.
Boston is an excellent place to kick back and enjoy a few cheap drinks, so make sure to get out and meet a few locals at these awesome dive bars.
