Los Angeles – it’s a gorgeous beach city with a lot to offer. If you love to travel, L.A. is a great choice for new experiences, especially if you’re interested in the celebrity life. L.A. is a glitzy, expensive city with plenty of flamboyant touches. There are plenty of activities you can do in Los Angeles for FREE. Yes, totally free! Here are some of our favorite free spots.
California Science Center
Into science and nature? Want to please your inner child? The free California Science Center is a must-visit. The biggest attraction here is the air and space exhibit, which features NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour. Other exhibits feature ecosystems, life sciences and the human body, and inventions. There are a lot of hands-on exhibits, making this a great stop for families. Don’t forget to check out the gorgeous Kelp Tank, an aquarium with over 1,500 fish and plants! If you have some extra money to spend, you can enjoy an IMAX show or a museum tour.
Griffith Park and Observatory
If you are trying to explore a city on a budget, one of the best things to do is see the city’s local parks. Griffith Park and Observatory is one of the best options in L.A., with plenty of free activities. Entry to the park is free, and you can enjoy some spectacular views and outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming. If you have a little money to spend, there are other attractions here too, including a planetarium, zoo, museum, and more. Everything is very affordable, usually costing only a few bucks.
The Getty Center
L.A. is home to all kinds of architectural marvels and art havens, and the Getty Center no exception. It’s a great place to visit if you have any interest in these fields but have an empty wallet. This free museum is located in a famous building designed by Richard Meier, and features amazing views of Los Angeles on clear days. Inside, you’ll find all kinds of art from different countries and time periods. It’s a huge collection for something that’s free of charge!
Walt Disney Concert Hall
This concert hall, designed by famed architect Frank Gehry, is beautiful to see even if you aren’t attending a concert. Admission to the hall is free, and you can even enjoy a free tour. Tours can either be led by a guide or done by yourself with an audio aid – both methods are free! You won’t be able to go into the auditorium unless you are seeing a show, but the tour will take you around both the interior and exterior of the hall. If you want to splurge, there are always shows available; seeing the Los Angeles Philharmonic here is a real treat!
Zuma Beach
If you’re in L.A., you simply have to go to at least one beach. You can’t go to L.A. and miss spending some time in the sun! There are tons of public beaches in the city, meaning they are completely free. Zuma Beach is one of the nicer beaches around, thanks to its large size and nice neighborhood. This beach is also well-known for sports like surfing and bodyboarding, so if you want to give these things a try, check it out! Don’t worry if you’re new to these activities – lifeguards are on duty.
