Eating out in Denver doesn’t have to be expensive. Although there are many excellent fine dining options in the Mile High City, there are even more cheap places that serve really great food. (Think: fresh, original cuisine, since Denver is notoriously a health-conscious city).
If you’re looking for an inexpensive but delicious place to have a meal in Denver, give some of these cheap options a chance.
Saigon Bowl
This Vietnamese restaurant has dozens of inexpensive dishes on its menu, including traditional options like rice noodle bowls and pho. Most of these options are available for under 10 dollars, but you’ll find some higher-priced entrees available as well, including the fire-pot soup mixtures and the whole striped bass with ginger-and-scallion sauce. You can also purchase family dinners intended for two to six people for a reasonable price.
Tamales by La Casita
If you’re in the mood for exceptional tamales, head to north Denver for this restaurant owned by the Paula Sandoval family for the last 40 years. The authentic “new Mexican” foods served at Tamales by La Casita include tacos, enchiladas and burritos in addition to your other favorites. You’ll find the clean and well-lit restaurant both comfortable and relaxing as you enjoy your authentic Mexican meal.
The Market at Larimer Square
You’ll find a variety of different salads, sandwiches and sweet treats at The Market at Larimer Square. The casual atmosphere and the extensive list of options draw many locals and tourists alike to this café. With the good weather in Denver, you can often enjoy outdoor dining, but there’s also seating inside. We recommend trying their signature cake: The Spring Fling. Made with zucchini bread, cream cheese frosting and fresh fruits in the layers and the top, it’s unreal good.
Billy’s Gourmet Hot Dogs
Despite the name, Billy’s Gourmet Hot Dogs offers more than just classic street food. You’ll find burgers, chicken and even grilled salmon on the menu here, but you have to at least try the hot dogs, which are cheap, savory, and fantastic. There are also nine different varieties of fries at Billy’s, including a signature garlic pesto blue cheese option.
The Cherry Cricket
The Cherry Creek North neighborhood is home to this down-to-earth, casual joint. But don’t let their reputation as the dive bar or the black sheep of Cherry Creek fool you. Boasting handfuls of awards from the 2017 Denver Burger Battle and Food Network shows such as Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (just to name a few), when you taste the burgers here, you’ll see why it’s worth mentioning. The Cricket’s focus is on burgers and craft beer, and here you’ll find more than thirty different topping choices, including bacon, onions, grilled pineapple and even raspberry jam! Be sure to also try their famous Mac n Cheese wedges!
Sam’s No. 3
You’ll like the variety of the menu at Sam’s No. 3, which includes Greek gyros, Mexican chili and traditional burgers and breakfasts. Featured on The Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives,” the decadence of this restaurant is not really for the health-conscious or for those looking for a small snack. Combine some of your favorite foods to make a unique meal, such as the local favorites of a chorizo burrito, green chili macaroni and cheese and tater tots.
