Whether you live there or thinking of booking flights to Dallas, there’s no doubt that you can spend some time getting to know “The Big D,” – especially the food. Although its roots are in Tex-Mex cuisine, you’ll find a wide variety of international options throughout the city. With so many foods options, you’ll want to experience as many as possible – which means you may want to stick to some affordable options.
Here are some of the eateries we recommend that won’t break the bank.
Angry Dog
A quintessential Texas eatery, the Angry Dog is as well known for its atmosphere and cheap menu. If you’re looking for a noisy, cluttered bar-like place to get some down-home grub, look no further than this place in Deep Ellum. The neighborhood is currently undergoing a facelift, but you can shut all of that out inside this unique location with a huge menu of affordable options. We especially recommend the 10 wings for $6.50 or the house special, the Angry Dog hot dog. This masterpiece is covered in more mustard, grilled onion, cheese and chili than can possibly be good for you. That makes it all the more delicious.

Blue Sushi Sake Grill
For something a little different deep in the heart of Texas, give this Nebraska-import a try. The dining room is blue while the sake room is red, and the Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a hit with the locals. You can enjoy 8 pieces of sushi for just $7.50, or you can visit at happy hour for even more specials. With fish coming from some of the best seafood purveyors in the world and a gluten-free menu, you can’t go wrong with any selection of sushi or sashimi at this place.
Bubba’s Cooks Country
If you’ve heard of Babe’s, a phenomenal fried chicken establishment known throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, you’ll want to visit Bubba’s Cooks Country. Sort of like a little brother to the more established location, this chicken favorite has been in operation since 1981. You’ll get a fried thigh, dollop of mashed potatoes, spoonful of green beans and the softest yeast roll you could ever want for just $7. With more than a dozen other cheap options, you’ll want to come back here again and again.

Burger lovers unite at two locations in the city. With 12 “hyper-local” taps, and a selection of beers from across the Lone Star State, it’s the ideal spot for beer and burgers.
