Far enough removed from London to avoid any undo hustle and bustle but near enough for day trips (in either direction) and easy access to Heathrow Airport, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is home to a wealth of English attractions and historical sites, including Windsor Castle, Eton College, LEGOLAND and of course, the Ascot Racecourse. This green swath of English countryside isn't just for history and the kids – Windsor and Maidenhead are the place to be for some of the best in British sporting events. Here's a list of the Windsor and Maidenhead sports line up for summer 2013. She Runs Windsor EXPOtique May 4 to 6 The first weekend of May will see a new women only running and life style event. The 10km race will start and finish on the famous Long Walk in Windsor's Great Park and will take in iconic landmarks such as the George III Statue, the York Club and the Jubilee Statue. The EXPOtique will offer three days of fun and interactive activities for free. Royal Windsor Horse Show May 8 to 12 Celebrating its 70th Anniversary, the UK's biggest outdoor horse show will involve 3,000 competing horses for International Carriage Driving, Showing, Equestrian Displays and first class Jumping. Set in the private grounds of Windsor Castle, the event will, as always, be patronized by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Toshiba Windsor Triathlon June 16 One of the British Triathlon Super Series Events, the Windor Triathalon will take place against a backdrop of Windsor Castle, Eton College, the Royal Landscape and the River Thames. First will come the river swim followed by a bike course zipping through a number of borough villages and returning through Windsor Great Park. The multi-lap run course will wind around the town centre passing by the castle, over Eton Bridge and along Eton High Street. Royal Ascot June 18 to 22 Few sporting venues match the 250-year heritage and history of Ascot Racecourse. Tradition, pageantry, fashion and style will place Royal Ascot at the centre of the British social calendar again this June. Almost as amazing as the £4.5 million in prize money at stake for the action, on the track will be the ornate and fanciful hats worn by many of the female spectators in the stands. Samsung World Rowing Cup II June 21 to 23 International rowing will return to Eton Dorney with the second stage of the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup taking place on the Olympic course. Cheer on some of the world's finest rowers at one of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games' most iconic venues. Audi International Polo Sunday July 28 Guards' Polo Club at Smith's Lawn will continue to host this social event where English society and royalty mix with Hollywood film stars and global music icons. On the pitch, Team Audi England will defend the Coronation Cup against a leading international team.
