US Airways soars to record third quarter profit

US Airways announced Wednesday that it posted a record third quarter profit on stronger passenger revenue.

The Tempe, Arizona based carrier reported a $240 million net profit, which is much better news than the net loss of $80 million it reported the same period one year prior.

US Airways revenue rose 16.9 percent in the third quarter, which is thanks in large part to continued industry capacity constraints, higher
yields on fares and fuller planes.
