United has best on-time performance by major U.S. airline

According to a report released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation, United Airlines had the best on-time performance for the first quarter of 2010 among the larger U.S. carriers.

With an impressive 82.5 percent on-time performance, United bested American, Continental, Delta and US Airways. An airline is considered "on-time" when they land at their final destination within 14 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.

United was of course glowing over the news with the president of the company saying, "These results, coming after our strong performance in 2009, demonstrate
United's commitment to getting our customers where they need to be
safely and on time."

United Airlines recently came to a merger agreement with Continental Airlines, which is expected to go into effect by the end of the calendar year.
