United Airlines will begin daily non-stop flights from Los Angeles to Guadalajara, Mexico on May 3, pending approval from the Mexican government.

The flights will be operated by Continental Airlines and will utilize the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

United and Continental merged last October and are currently in the process of integrating their flight networks.

Continental spokeswoman Macky Osorio said that the new route made sense because Los Angeles is home to a large Guadalajaran community with solid ties to the second largest city in Mexico.
