Bonnie slams Gulf Coast region

Tropical Storm Bonnie, the 2010 season's second named storm, is headed straight for the Southeast Florida coast with winds of 40 mph.

The storm is expected to cross South Florida and slam the Gulf of Mexico late Friday night and Saturday morning. From there the storm is predicted to hover over the northern section of the Gulf and make its way to the Gulf Coast of Louisiana on Saturday afternoon.

It does not look like Bonnie will catch speed and become a hurricane, but South Florida is still preparing for a vicious tropical storm with heavy rain that could reach as much as 5 inches in certain areas.

As of this post, Tropical Storm Warnings were announced for the northern Gulf Coast, from Destin, Florida to Morgan City, Louisiana.
