Tourist Sites Reopen in Egypt CheapOair Staff February 18, 2011 general Egypt attractions reopen this weekend The newly appointed minister of antiquities, Zahi Hawass, announced Friday that Egypt will reopen their most visited tourist attractions on Sunday. Hawass commented on the decision in a statement, "all of the Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern sites will reopen, in the hopes that tourists from around the world will soon return to Egypt." Security is obviously an issue right now, since the recent ousting of former president Hosni Mubarak led to numerous incidents involving antiquities being stolen or badly damaged. Hawass was appointed to his current position on January 30 under the former leader that was forced to step down after Egyptians protested for 18 days.
