Put a Different Spin on New Year’s Eve!

It may not be a typical place to spend the New Year, but ringing in 2013 in Portland could be a fun idea. While crowds form in New York City and London, Portlanders throw one heck of a party. There is something to do for every kind of party animal, just expect one thing- to have a lot of fun!

Portland Champagne Ball:
For 22 years, Portland has been throwing the most famous New Year’s Eve party- The Champagne Ball. Put on a nice suit, your fanciest dress and get ready to bring in the New Year- glam style. This gala attracts over 1,000 guests and offers themed rooms, 16 bars, and lots of space to dance. You’ll even party for a good cause- benefiting the Children’s Cancer Association.

Portland’s Grand Ball: Their catchy motto is: “Celebrating the shift in consciousness in 2012 and the fact that the World Didn’t End.” The Portland Grand Ball truly captures the attitude of Portlanders and will definitely one party you can’t miss. Taking place at the Mariott Grand Ballroom on the Waterfront, it’s a prime location to party. This year, there will be live performances by local Portland bands, including an exclusive reunion performance by The Dan Reed Network. This will be the party for locals if you’re looking for a place where you’ll sample the local flavor. A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

New Year’s Eve Party Portland City Grill: Looking for a party that will put you on top of the world? Well, you won’t be literally, but you’ll be high enough for a good view of Portland. The New Year’s Eve Party Portland City Grill is great for small parties who want to enjoy dinner and dancing with a view from the 30th floor. You’ll be in a private dining room that will create the most intimate New Years’ experience. You can also just stay at the bar and enjoy drinks without the fancy dinner.

Curious Comedy Theater NYE Extravaganza! Who says you can’t say goodbye to 2012 without a few laughs? Rather than mourning over the fact that you didn’t travel enough or keep any of your travel resolutions this year, enjoy a few laughs at the Curious Comedy Theater NYE Extravaganza! This stand up event will poke fun at the past year and funny things to come. The event includes live stand up and improv performances, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a champagne toast. After a few good laughs, you’ll be able to dance once 2013 has been rung in. Note- this event sells a limited number of tickets.

This is quite the coincidence. I just found out a couple days ago that I would be spending my New Years in the Vancouver/Portland area. I guess now I know what to check out while I’m there.
