Smithsonian Museum of American History Opens Made in USA Gift Shop CheapOair Staff June 10, 2011 general Visitors stream through the lobby of the Museum of American History The Smithsonian Institute’s Museum of American History in Washington D.C. has opened the Price of Freedom Store, a gift shop that sells only merchandise made in the United States. The store came to fruition at the urging of US Senator Bernard Sanders, an Independent from Vermont. During a visit to the museum around Christmas time, he was disturbed to find that almost none of the merchandise sold in the museum’s other gift shop was made in the USA. Shortly after, he met with Smithsonian officials who pledged to do their best to find more American-made products. On a trip to the museum this week, Sanders was pleased with the news shop and expressed pride at the swift reaction from museum officials. Source: Washington Post Flickr: Mastermaq
