New seats provide passengers with 23 inches of space

The SkyRider airplane seat is to be unveiled next week at the Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas conference in Long Beach. The seat would put passengers at an angle with no more than 23 inches between their perch and the seat in front of them.

The design could appeal to low cost airlines that have juggled the idea of providing passengers standing-room tickets on short flights.

The SkyRider hasn’t been approved for any airplane cabins yet, however, it’s designer, Aviointeriors, an aircraft seat design firm in Latina, Italy, says several airlines, including some in the US have expressed interest.

They’ve got to be kidding. I’ll drive clear across the country with a screaming 1 year old in the backseat before I ride on an airplane with these seats.
