Product Review: Heat Holder Socks. Photo credit: Heat Holders
Ever spent a whole day away from home with cold feet? I not being metaphorical and talking about being too shy or afraid to enjoy yourself. I mean being uncomfortable because you're not wearing the right socks for the weather. No matter how many layers and scarves and whatever else you're wearing from the ankles up, if your feet aren't warm you aren't warm. It's a miserable feeling. And there's only one thing worse: cold wet feet.
Whether trekking through the tropics or luxuriating in a five start hotel, what I'm wearing on my feet can often have the potential to make or break the experience. So when the chance to review a couple of pairs of Heat Holders came up, I was all about it. Heat Holders are hardcore thermal socks. They come in a range of styles and colors for men, women and kids and are available in the US, Canada, Britain, Central Europe and Korea.
Constructed with a mix of specially developed and blended modern fibres with a unique long pile cushioning, Heat Holders have a tog rating of 2.34. Tog (yeah, it's new terminology for me too) is (according to Wikipedia) “a measure of thermal resistance of a unit area, also known as thermal insulance, commonly used in the textile industry, and often seen quoted on, for example, duvets and carpet underlay.” Essentially, what that means is that Heat Holders are more than seven times warmer than regular cotton socks and three times warmer than ordinary thermal socks on the market. Heat Holders have a firm “gentle grip” and are more structured than the typical sock.

Sexy? Not at all. Comfy? Very much so! It's getting cold here in London, and having a pair of Heat Holders to wear during a recent rainy day bounding all over town in the rain helped keep me dry and toasty until I got home later that evening. Plus, I'm lining up visits to the Alps and possibly Scotland before the end of the year. These extremely lightweight (if a little bulky) socks are definitely making it into my bags. Heck, I'll probably even wear a pair of them the next time I go looking for;cheap flights.
Disclosure: I received two pairs of complimentary Heat Holders for the purposes of review. All opinions are my own.
