A scientist was detained Thursday evening after screeners at Miami International Airport discovered a metal canister in his luggage that looked similar to a pipe bomb.

The FBI and Miami Dade police brought the 70-year-old man in for questioning. 

The airport closed four of its six concourses and a hotel located close to the airport was evacuated while a bomb squad searched for any possible explosives.

After hours of investigating the airport and the area surrounding it, MIA opened shortly after 4 a.m.
