On the Fast Track with London’s Heathrow Express CheapOair Staff January 27, 2010 general 1 Comment Fast, reliable and smooth – London’s Heathrow Express I have just arrived in England for a long weekend in London! My plane landed a few hours ago and I seem to have brought the New York weather with me, as both cities are enjoying temps in the 40s with partly cloudy skies. Rainstorms are also expected to occur while I am in town, but nothing will deter me from enjoying one of the absolute best cities in the world. So much to see, do, eat and drink while I am here. Upon arriving at Heathrow today, I made my way to the Heathrow Express. This is one of the most affordable and easiest ways to get from to and from the airport and central London without breaking your piggy bank. Opened in 1998 by then Prime Minister Tony Blair, Heathrow Express connects Heathrow Airport and London Paddington Station by rail with such onboard features as up-to-date BBC news, weather and local information about London attractions. Plus passengers looking to save some time can even check into their flight at Paddington en route to the airport. Also as of November 2009, Heathrow Express offers complimentary Wi-Fi while riding the rails. This truly beats my commute on the F train back in New York! So without further ado, lets get into today’s “Long Weekend in London” question, for your chance to hop the pond with a friend, stay three-nights at the base2stay hotel and even be provided with two Visitor Oyster cards thanks to our friends at VisitBritain. Heathrow Express is a great way to get to and from one of the world’s busiest airports, but there are many great and not so great transportation systems for travelers around the world. In your opinion, what was the best and worst transportation system you encountered while on the road? We will pick two comments at random and annouce them in one of tomorrow’s London themed blog stories. You have between 8am ET and 6pm ET each day to answer the daily question. Please be sure to include your name, email address and twitter name (optional). Note: Some of you have been wondering why your comments do not show up right away when you post them. We have to monitor comments before they go live, so as long as you enter all the information in correctly, your comment will show up and count. Good luck! Tuesday’s winners: The two entrants chosen from Tuesday’s article are Emily Mattox & Malorie Sellers. You are both now entered into the grand prize drawing on Tuesday February 2 for the “Long Weekend in London.” Headed to England’s capital city? Need to save a little cash when in town?
