President Barack Obama signed the Travel Promotion Act this past Thursday which will introduce a new $10 foreign tax to foreign travelers visiting the United States.

The money from the tax will go toward a $100 million promotion plan that will help get the word out on tourism to the United States around the world.

Sadly until this act was passed the United States only spent about $6 million per year on promoting tourism. In comparison, countries like Mexico and Australia normally spend $100 million each year to attract foreign visitors.

Travel to the United States has taken a hit over the last decade thanks to the attacks of 9/11, anti-American sentiment around the world due to the Bush administration and the worldwide economic meltdown.
