Nor’easter Forcing Airline Cancellations CheapOair Staff November 7, 2012 general In NYC, major airlines are preparing for this week’s Nor’easter Athena in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy. This storm is not predicted to be as damaging as Sandy was, but with defenses down, especially the on the coast, the storm may take its toll with high winds, a mix of rain and snow and potential for more flooding. With over 20,000 flights canceled due to the previous storm, several airlines have suspended operations and others are encouraging passengers to reschedule – without a fee. Airline confirmed cancelations are as following: • United is suspending service in New York starting at noon Wednesday till noon Thursday. • American Airlines is shutting down in New York at 3 p.m. and from Philadelphia at noon.
