New York City Mayor Wants to Ban Smoking in Times Square, Coney Island & Central Park CheapOair Staff September 16, 2010 general Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn are backing a plan that would prohibit smoking at beaches, marinas, beaches, boardwalks and pedestrian plazas. The ban would mean people would not be able to light up at some of the Big Apple's most popular tourist attractions. If the law were to be passed, heavily populated areas like Times Square, Central Park and Brooklyn's Coney Island beach would be smoke-free. Mayor Bloomberg made the announcement on the possible new smoking ban Wednesday during a press conference. The ban will most likely have no problems being passed, since Bloomberg has a lot of support within the city council. What do you think of the new New York City smoking ban being extended from just bars and restaurants? Do you feel that it is a great idea or unconstitutional?
