Montego Bay, Off the Beaten Path CheapOair Staff April 24, 2013 general There are so many things to do in an all-inclusive resort, and a beach vacation. Think: pools, swimming up to bars and asking for a Bahama Mama, and parasailing. But there are “off the beaten path” activities in Montego Bay, and some that are pretty cool to do to. Here are some ideas: Half Moon Equestrian Center Horseback riding is not at the top of most people’s minds when they’ve got cheap tickets and visit Jamaica, but Half Moon Resort has what they call the best equestrian experience on the island. You can ride your horse at sunset, and also receive lessons. Antique Musical Instrument Museum The Greenwood Great House once belonged to the cousin of the poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and now this is a home that displays antique musical instruments as well as furniture. It is considered the finest antique museum in the Caribbean and the best in Jamaica. It was built by the Barretts of Wimpole Street, London. Montego Bay Marine Park This nature reserve for the marine life in Montego Bay contains a gorgeous opportunity for bird spotting and encountering aquatic life in Jamaica. Bring your binoculars and enjoy a fun time on the catamaran and also do a bit of snorkeling. Gloucester Avenue Also known as the “hip strip,” this is the place to be for anyone visiting downtown Montego Bay, so technically it isn’t too “off the beaten path” but there are plenty of local beaches (including the Doctor’s Cave beach) and sights enjoyed by a complimentary pedi cab (note, guard your belongings carefully).
