Malaysia Airlines will begin flying as a OneWorld member in 2012

Malaysia Airlines has announced that it will join the OneWorld Alliance and begin flying as a full member in 2012.

When the carrier starts flying as a full member, passengers can begin earning and redeeming rewards on any flights operated by OneWorld members.

The alliance currently consists of over a dozen members, including major carriers like American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, and Cathay Pacific. German airline Airberlin and India’s Kingfisher Airlines are also expected to join sometime in 2012.

With the addition of Malaysia Airlines, the alliance will reach nearly 950 destinations in 150 countries, while carrying an estimated 358 million passengers each year.
