Lufthansa will install about 32,000 new seats across its short and medium-haul fleet over the next year.

The newly designed seats offer a slimmer back which will generate nearly two inches of increased legroom for each passenger.

The changes will also allow the airline to increase seating capacity across the fleet by about 2,000. In addition, the new design will make each aircraft lighter and more fuel efficient.

The airline estimates that the new design will make each row about 30 pounds lighter.

The cabin makeovers are a part of Lufthansa’s new commitment to improving passenger comfort on shorter European flights.

Passengers traveling in Economy Class on domestic flights will once again be offered snacks while those traveling on cross-border flights of more than two hours will be offered a hot meal.
