Lufthansa Pilots Propose Arbitration CheapOair Staff April 1, 2010 general A mid-April Lufthansa strike is looming The union representing roughly 4,000 pilots for Lufthansa Airlines stated Thursday that it was ready to take the squabble with the German carrier to arbitration. A four-day strike over pay and job security is scheduled for mid-April, but the union stated walkouts could be avoided if they could agree on a time to meet with an arbitrator, something Lufthansa recommended previously. But the only way Lufthansa is willing to meet with an arbitrator is if the Cockpit union calls off any strikes in the meantime. The union planned a four-day strike back in Februar, but it was cancelled after one day due to negotiations resuming on both sides. Cockpit is complaining that Lufthansa is offering no pay raises over the next 21-months and worsening conditions for workers. Source: Associated Press
