New York's MacArthur Airport on a busy day

With the low-cost and very popular carrier JetBlue planning to expand service to new locations, Long Island's MacArthur Airport, located in the city of Ronkonkoma, is planning to pitch to the airline to use their facilities.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said the airport has a good chance at bringing JetBlue to New York's lesser known airport. MacArthur is roughly 50 miles away from New York City and is already home to rival carrier Southwest Airlines.

JetBlue coming to MacArthur means 800 new jobs and would do wonders for the local economy and be a convenient option for travelers not located near major airports like JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.

Some residents are against the plans to bring another airline to MacArthur as they feel it just means more noise and traffic in their neighborhood.
