Lonely Planet to Take Bite Out of Street Food Market

Street food is such a trendy topic at the moment and has been developing into such a burgeoning scene at such a rapid pace in London that travel guide extraordinaries, Lonely Planet, reckon it’s time to host their very own Street Food Festival here.

Lonely Planet’s first ever Street Food Festival is set to take place in Shoreditch, the hip and happening heart of East London and home to one of the yummiest street food scenes in the world right now. The event is to celebrate the launch of Lonely Planet’s latest title, The World’s Best Street Food.

The World’s Best Street Food is essentially a cookbook – done Lonely Planet stye. It explores 100 of the world’s must-eat and most authentic dishes from markets, hawker centres and bazaars across the globe as discovered by Lonely Planet’s travel experts. Each street food delicacy in the book has two dedicated pages detailing the history and culture behind the food as well as the recipe explaining in plain terms how to make the dish yourself.

All of the dishes served at the event are to be cooked from the recipes in the book. Mum seems to be the word on who the actual vendors are going to be and what specific foods they’ll be making, but Lonely Planet promises dishes from Japan, India, Spain and more all available “in sample sizes so that people can try a range of cuisines.”

For a taste of how the festival might play out, there’s a delectable exert from the new book on the online pages of the Guardian.

The Lonely Planet Street Food Festival is to be held at Village Underground in Shoreditch, 54 Holywell Lane, EC2A 3PQ. Shoreditch High Street Overground Station is the nearest station. Liverpool Street Station and Old Street Station are close too. A good number of busses pass right by as well.
This one off event runs from 7p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday March 28 and Thursday March 29, 2012. Tickets are for over 18s only and must be booked in advance. You can find them for sale now here.
