It was announced today that the Olympic Park in Stratford, just east of London, will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park when it reopens in 2013.

This is the latest in the plans to build Europe's biggest urban park, which is roughly 500-acres and will be used to bring together the best of Britain’s capital in one place.

The new name for the park has been approved by the Queen, according to the British Olympic Association and the International Olympic Committee.

Other ideas for the area surrounding the park will be to add new schools, nurseries, community spaces and a network of facilities.

Commenting on the park's overall plans, London mayor Boris Johnson, said: “Not since Georgian
England has London seen such an ambitious and comprehensive vision for
a new district."
