London’s Heathrow Airport Reports Record April Traffic CheapOair Staff May 12, 2011 general Heathrow traffic jumps in April Heathrow Airport, one of the world's most visited airports on the planet, reported it's busiest April ever this week. More than 5.8 million passengers made their way through Heathrow last month according to airport operator BAA. Another BAA airport, Scotland's Edinburgh, also enjoyed a record April, with over 776,000 passengers. Collectively, more than 9.1 million people traveled through BAA's six airports in April, up 31 percent when compared to April 2010. It should be noted however that those airports were affected greatly by the Icelandic volcanic ash, which forced many airports to shut down for hours and in some cases days. Another factor in the great jump year-over-year was Easter landing in April this year and the royal wedding providing travelers with an extra bank holiday.
