King’s Landing from Game of Thrones

The historic city of Dubrovnik, Croatia plays a large part in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones – it is used as the location for King’s Landing, where many a ruler has fallen in their quest for the Iron Throne. Most scenes are filmed in the old city of Dubrovnik and the ancient city of Split. Dubrovnik has made the most of its newfound fame by offering filming tours that allow fans to see locations from the series such as the Red Keep, House of the Undying and many others.

Highclere Castle from Downton Abbey

Located in West Berkshire (about a 1.5 hour drive from London) Highclere Castle served as the main filming location for the six seasons of the hit BBC/PBS series Downton Abbey. Countless scenes from the daily life the Earl of Grantham, his family and staff took place between these walls. In real life, the castle is occupied by George and Fiona Herbert, the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. However, this modern-day aristocratic couple doesn’t have the robust downstairs staff featured on Downton Abbey. See for yourself – on certain days, the Earl and Countess open certain parts of their home to the public! Make sure to check the official Highclere website before planning your visit so that you aren’t turned away at the gate.

Woodbury from The Walking Dead

Featured as the too-perfect town of Woodbury in season three of The Walking Dead, the main street in Senoia, Georgia is the perfect place to take a stroll. Visitors will immediately notice the absence of gates to keep out “walkers” (and the fact that nobody seems to mention The Governor). Don’t worry though – the delightful shops and eateries that line this historic street will more than make up for the disappointment of not seeing a zombie in the flesh.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel from Mad Men

This glamorous hotel in Los Angeles features prominently in several seasons of Mad Men. Perhaps it is most memorable as the backdrop for the season 5 episode in which Betty and her friend are visited by a fortune teller or the season 2 episode where Don meets Betty for drinks at The Savoy. The Millennium Biltmore Hotel isn’t the only Mad Men locale that you can visit in L.A. Even though the series is supposed to take place in New York, most of it was filmed in soundstages and at various locations around Los Angeles.

Magnolia Bakery from Sex and the City

Sex and the City fans can taste Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite red velvet cupcake at the bakery made famous by the popular show. Located in New York City‘s West Village, Magnolia Bakery serves up more than just red velvet – their banana pudding also gets rave reviews, even if the Sex and the City ladies opted for the bakery’s more classic fare.
