Las Vegas sees increase in tourism

 

The tourism promoters of Las Vegas say the city experienced more than 3.2 million visitors in May, a two percent increase over the same month a year earlier.

 

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, this was the ninth straight month in which the year-over-year visitor numbers increased.

 

According to the visitors’ authority, gaming revenue for Clark County dropped 4.4 percent to $714.7 million from May 2009 to May 2010.

 

Room inventory increased by over 5.5 percent to around 148m000 rooms, city wide occupancy fell by 1.8 percent in May. The average daily room rate rose 2 percent, to nearly $99.

 

Convention attendance increased more than 3 percent to more than 353,000 even though the number of conventions and meetings decreased by 4 percent.
