Slater, who got his 15 minutes of fame by swearing at a passenger who he felt had treated him badly, popped the emergency chute, grabbed a beer and departed Kennedy International Airport. He was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing. The mental health evaluation is a part of assessment on Slater that will help the proper authorities potentially lead to alternative sentencing, including such things as community service or counseling instead of being put behind bars.
