The American Association for Nude Recreation is hoping to make New York City’s Coney Island the next American destination to offer a designated nude beach.

According to a spokesman, the group is attracted to Coney Island because of its close proximity to public transportation and popularity among international visitors. Currently, the closest nude beaches to NYC are located miles away in Sandy Hook, NJ and Fire Island, Long Island.

The AANR is eyeing a secluded spot near West 37th Street for the proposed nude beach. City officials, however, say they currently have no plans to allow nude bathing in the area.
