A ground-breaking ceremony was held Tuesday morning at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas to mark the start of construction on a new $99 million air traffic control tower. Set to open in 2015, the new tower will replace an existing one at the aging airport.

The ceremony was attended by some high profile figures, including US Senator Harry Reid and Federal Aviation Administration chief Randy Babbit.

McCarran is currently undergoing an expansive makeover, with construction of the $1.6 billion Terminal 3 set to wrap up next year.
