The Hoover Dam is just one option for Sin City tour seekers

Now that the desert heat is finally less blistering and monsoon season (which has been pretty non-existent this year) is nearly over, it’s time to take advantage of cheap airfares and head over to Las Vegas.

Whether in town for a proper holiday or just a weekend, there are always plenty of activities to enjoy. No one says you have to stay, feet firmly planted, in your hotel on The Strip. This trip, why not take advantage of all there is to see (and do) in Las Vegas and book a tour?

Not sure which tour is right for you? There are a lot of options.

A helicopter tour of The Strip. Grab some friends and enjoy a hop in a helicopter to see the sites and of Las Vegas. Available during the day and night, the sunset is the best time to book a trip and fly over the Strip just as the lights of the town start to glitter. Most trips start with a fly-over of the infamous Downtown Las Vegas and iconic landmarks such as Four Queens and Golden Nugget, then head south, passing above The Stratosphere, and then continuing on down the Strip. You’ll fly over all of the major Las Vegas landmarks and get to see things from a unique point of view – above. The grandness of Bellagio’s lake alone gives you an entirely different perspective on these famous locales.

See the Grand Canyon.  Craving some nature? Head to the Grand Canyon. One popular option combines airplanes, helicopters and good, old-fashioned foot to the ground touring. Hop a quick flight to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon – one of the world’s must-see places – then board a helicopter to tour the gorgeous red and orange rocks plummeting into the Colorado River. Afterwards, grab those hiking shoes and go experience some of the South Rim for yourself. If you want even more excitement, there are tours that include a copter tour deep into the canyon, then a river raft down a portion of the river. There are plenty of Grand Canyon tours to choose from, so find the one that fits your needs and price tag.

Tour the inner workings of the Hoover Dam. A quick drive from Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam is a great place to go for history and a behind-the-scenes look at its underbelly. Drive through the charming Boulder City, the town that sprung up thanks to the construction of the Hoover Dam. Once at the dam, you’ll learn about the making of the dam, get an up-close view of the power plant and take photos from the observation deck. Some tours also operate boat tours from the dam to Lake Mead.

Enjoy the colors of Valley of Fire. This large outcropping of red rocks is about an hour drive north of the city.  Most tours offer transportation and entrance into the park. For the more adventurous, grab an ATV and head out on your own tour of the dunes, rocks and trails that make this area so unique. Discover ancient petroglyphs and rock formations.

Believe. In Area 51. While it may not be too close to Las Vegas, there are tours that encompass nearly an entire day and take visitors to the famed Area 51. The SUV experience whizzes through the desert to old lake beds, and of course, spots where UFOs have been sighted. The trip takes you on the “Extraterrestrial Highway,” where you may (or may not) see anything, and has a stop at the entrance to the legendary Area 51.
