Five Reasons to Fall in Love With British Columbia

Toast to BC!

I remember the culmination of last year’s Trans-Canada road trip well: driving into British Columbia, chattering away to my friend Cailin, and suddenly stopping mid-sentence as I found myself between mountains and vibrant green valleys carpeted in flowers. I was speechless, and completely in awe of my surroundings.

Whether you’re an outdoorsy adventure person or a chic city slicker, you’ll find something to love about Canada’s western-most province.

Mountain ranges galore: British Columbia’s landscape is crowded with mountain ranges – so many, in fact, that it’s practically impossible to explore them all. Whether you’re in the interior or along the coast, these ranges provide endless adventure opportunities for thrill junkies: mountain biking, climbing, hiking, river rafting, and more.

Winter sports are revered: Many Canadians grumble about the winter blues, but British Columbia natives embrace deep snow and cold climates all for the love of sports. There’s no shortage of ski hills – from Golden to Whistler, snowboarding and skiing are loved by most.

Cosmopolitan cities: Vancouver might be one of the prettiest cities in the world, and the most environmentally friendly. Here you’ll find endless streets filled with restaurants (cheap sushi!), bars, and pubs. When it’s time for a retreat, head to Stanley Park.

Other trendy cities with a lot going on: Kelowna and Kamloops. They’re much smaller scale, but with big personalities.

Vancouver Island: Most people will tell you this is one of the “chilliest” places in the world, where people come to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Victoria, the main city on the island, has an old-world vibe but a young population. Tofino, a notorious surf destination, is famous for its flawless beaches and friendly people.

The Okanagan Valley: British Columbia isn’t ALL mountains – did you know that the Okanagan Valley produces some of the world’s best wine? Vineyard after vineyard can be found here, in a setting far removed from the craziness of city life. The Okanagan Lake itself is a popular destination for weekend fun-lovers looking to rent a houseboat and drift around aimlessly.
