Ford Lauderdale has a lot going for it: there are beaches, nightlife, restaurants and casinos, to name a few. A visit doesn’t simply have to be so cookie cutter, and there’s something for everyone. Find your travel personality and get going!

If You’re a Beach Junkie: Explore one of Fort Lauderdale’s several beaches at the crack of dawn and get your latte fix at an open-air café. Then stroll along the promenade. In the afternoon, engage in a brisk walk or even segue the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park trails, which are very close to the Fort Lauderdale Beach. In the evening, dine alfresco in a beachside restaurant.

If You Love Nature: Take in a beautiful morning walk at Butterfly World or visit the Flamingo Gardens. In the afternoon, why not go on an excursion to the Everglades and snap more than a dozen photographs of wildlife? The evening is the ideal time to go on a kayaking tour (or you can do a moonlight tour) at the Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood.

If You’re a Shopaholic: This is an easy one, right? Check out shopping destinations that include Sawgrass Mills and other outlet stores the first thing in the morning—so you can scoop up the best stuff and the deals. During the afternoon, try your hand at shopping at the Galleria, which is an upscale mall near the beach. In the evening, you can stroll to Las Olas Boulevard which is European in flair and has plenty of boutique stores. Dine at one of the bistros.

If You Like the Arts and Culture: The Sun Trust Sunday Jazz Brunch each month will give you both music and breakfast under one roof (or under a cloudless sky). The EcoDiscovery Center at the Museum of Discovery and Science could be a fun way to spend the afternoon; in the evening, take in a Broadway show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Sports: Engage in a little fishing activity at the crack of dawn. During the afternoon, you can drive to Gulfstream Park and take in a little equestrian or thoroughbred activity to whet your appetite for dinner. Dine at a restaurant early enough and then head over to one of the several casinos in the area.
