Family Travel: Stay in San Diego's Paradise. Photo credit: awnisALAN
Minutes from famous San Diego attractions (and literally across the bay from SeaWorld), Paradise Point Resort is both in the heart of the action, and yet worlds away. Sightseeing families can enjoy close proximity to SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, and downtown, while those seeking an inclusive getting-away-from-it-all vacation can book a cheap airline ticket to San Diego. Then, all that's left is to cuddle up to each other on the expansive grounds, seeking respite from a busy world.

Paradise Point is set on 44 acres of property on the stunning and serene waters of San Diego's Mission Bay. Truly a tropical paradise, the grounds are manicured with lush foliage, green grass, bold pops of floral color, and incredible lakes and fountains. The lobby welcomes you to the resort with a laid back California feel infused with the ocean's essence through unique architectural enhancements like the deep wood paneled wall and ceiling whose curved shape mimics the coasts fluidity.

The island offers 462 guest rooms, including 106 luxury suites. Many of the guest rooms face the pools, lagoon, and gardens of the resort, but we had the pleasure of staying in a beach front bungalow, and I believe it is well worth the extra price. Our room, like all of the rest on the property, has recently undergone a 20 million dollar facelift: numerous upgrades and enhancements make the accommodations modern, clean, and extremely comfortable
Stretching out from your door is over a mile of soft, warm sand, and just beyond it, the salty blue waters of the Pacific. At Paradise Point, you can enjoy your very own personal beach–just steps out your front door where you can relax in Adirondack chairs, play in the sand, search for shells, or hop into the cool water!  If the ocean's sandy beach is not enough, the resort offers four family-friendly pools (and one adult-only pool if you happen to be traveling on a kid-free getaway). Kids love the chance to climb the lookout tower (81 steps!). You'll be rewarded with a great bird's eye view of the resort, the stunning Pacific Ocean, and numerous San Diego attractions. On site, you can also rent bicycles, take surfing lessons, sail a boat from their private marina, play tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, or golf on their 18 hole putting course.  At night, toast up some s’mores on one of the beach's fourteen fire pits. Kits are available for purchase inside the onsite store and include everything you need (food included!) to make your s’mores event a simple success. Heading to nearby SeaWorld or Mission Beach?  No need to get your car & search for a spot to park- simply take the water taxi. A nominal fee gets your family to your destination without the hassle of having to drive- plus the kids love the experience.

When hungry, check out one of the resort's two beach-front restaurants.  Baleen offers fine dining selections while the Barefoot Bar & Grill serves up California casual food; both are set in a beautiful sunset-worthy location.

Disclosure: I received complimentary lodging, s’mores kit, and meals at Barefoot Bar and Grill. All opinions remain my own.
