Family Travel: Get Schooled at the Tech Museum CheapOair Staff April 19, 2013 Family Travel, Interests Get Techie! In the heart of the Silicon Valley, just south of San Francisco, where many of the world's most famous electronic must-haves got their start, The Tech Museum of Innovation offers inspiration, education, and fun for tech-savvy families. Their 132,000 square-foot dome is now a San Jose landmark. With a mission on inspiring the innovator in everyone, this family-friendly museum is a San Francisco area must-visit. Throughout the museum, hundreds of exhibits, many custom made, allow you and your children to get hands-on with technology. Permanent exhibits include “Genetics: Technology with a Twist” (in partnership with the Genetics Department at Stanford University), an Earthquake platform, and a Jet Pack Simulator (Awesome!)! Get to the small, little details as you explore at “Microchips: The Heart of the Revolution” or take in a show at The Hackworth IMAX DomeTheater. Yearly traveling exhibits make stops at The Tech including past exhibitions like "BODY WORLDS 2," "Star Trek: The Exhibition," "Genghis Kahn," and the energetic "MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition." In addition to great galleries, exhibits, and hands-on fun, your kids have a chance to get into the action at The Tech. Six science and technology labs on site offer daily programs for kids to explore and observe science and technology in action. Have a budding techy? The Tech Challenge is an annual competition for children grades 5-12 that allows kids to exercise their creative muscles in a team-building, fast-paced race as they solve real-world, tech related problems. Summer camps are another great way for kids to spend a large amount of time pondering and exploring technology. Before you leave The Tech, be sure to stop in at The Tech Store to find a full lineup of impressive and unique gadgets as well as books to help nurture a technology passion while away from the museum.
