Bumpkin Style!

Bumpkin is a small, London-based restaurant group. They’ve got three locations: the original West London Bumpkin in Notting Hill, another in South Kensington and a newest outlet at East London’s Westfield Stratford City. The group uses “only the freshest seasonal British ingredients” that have been “reared and caught in harmony with the environment wherever possible” and sources from “welfare-friendly” farms. It’s commendable as is their knack for coming up with a tasty variety of contemporary British dishes and offering diners invitingly cozy settings for enjoying such down-to-earth cuisine.

At the moment, all three Bumpkin restaurants are running their autumn menus. Dishes such as treacle and cider-glazed ham hock with pearl barley, sprouting broccoli and piccalilli salad and home-cured, beetroot-stained cured salmon served with a crab and horseradish pancakes present delectable starters while meaty main courses ensure hearty appetites are attended too. Consider Bumpkin’s comfort food classics such as braised lamb shoulder in a red wine, redcurrant, baby onion and leek sauce; venison haunch with creamed Savoy cabbage, crispy bacon lardons and vanilla shallots; and pork belly with a celeriac apple sauce.

But it’s not just meat, meat, meat. Dishes like roasted Crown Prince squash pearl barley risotto with Cornish yarg cheese crisps and chestnuts and Mull of Kintyre Cheddar cheese and onion tart prove the British isles can be a veggie-friendly destination. And of course seafood lovers have plenty to choose from including a filling and flavorsome West Coast seafood stew packed with prawns, crayfish and salmon. Still have room for more? Mulled wine poached pears with a hint of spice, vanilla and cinnamon is a great way to end a fall fest and to prep your taste buds for the festive season.

An epic range of cocktails (including a very brunch-worthy bloody Mary) along with a smart wine list and, of course, plenty of awesome British ales and ciders mean drinking is as delicious and dining at Bumpkin.
