Hurricane Dora has been upgraded to a powerful Category 4 storm, according to the latest information from the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is currently churning about 235 miles off the coast of Acapulco, Mexico. A tropical storm watch is in effect for coastal areas from Lazaro Cardenas to Cabo Corrientes, according to officials.

Though the storm is currently located well off the coast, it is expected to create life-threatening surf and rip-tide conditions because of its strength. Sustained winds within the storm have been clocked in excess of 135 mph.
