Bing Maps now calculates the cab fare on a route between two points.  The new application, the Taxi Fare Calculator was created by Ricky Brundritt as submission to the King of Bing Maps competition. 

The new application is accessible at the Bing Maps website. All users need to do is choose a region (results are best when located in a major metropolitan area, such as New York or London) and type in two addresses.

The application provides the shortest route and a fare estimate based on normal rates for cabs in the area. The pick-up charge, time charges and by-the-mile costs are all factored in where appropriate.

The new app should help users who want to save money by evaluating routes or who need to be sure they have the cash for a trip they plan to take.
