It’s been a busy day for American Airlines. We already told you earlier about the carrier’s historic aircraft order.

Now it’s being reported that American plans to officially spin off its American Eagle regional arm. Though this move has been hinted at in the past, this is the first time American has made such plans officially known to the public.

Spinning off Eagle could prove beneficial to both airlines. For one, it will free up American Airlines to work with other regional carriers to ensure better connections at the lowest rates.

Meanwhile, Eagle will be able to grow on its own as it cultivates new relationships with other international carriers.

There isn’t a timetable in place for official spin-off action just yet and American Airlines still hasn’t ruled out a complete sale of Eagle either.
