Today, American Airlines requested authority to launch nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, China beginning April 5, 2011.

The new service would be the only nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Shanghai operated by a U.S. airline.

“Los Angeles-Shanghai is the largest U.S. – China market for air travel and we believe it is in the public’s best interest to offer more air service between the two cities…” said Will Ris, American’s Senior Vice President – Government Affairs.

The airline will run the non-stop flights with a 242-seat Boeing 777 aircraft which will present 16 First Class, 37 Business Class and 194 Economy class seats.
