American Airlines is not giving up so easily on the battle to secure their current partnership with Japan Airlines. But it just may be too late, as Asahi newspaper reported on Friday that JAL was most likely going to jump to Delta as its new overseas alliance partner.

A public relations however stated, “We are still in ongoing discussions with JAL and we continue to maintain that American Airline’s offer is superior to that of any other rival.” So the mystery continues on where exactly Japan Airlines will wind up come 2010. If I were a betting man, I would go with Delta over American. Stay tuned.
