American Airlines announced Tuesday that it plans to lower the amount needed to book a short flight through the carrier for a limited time.

Customers that book by August 31 and fly by December 15 will only have to shell out 17,500 miles each way. That is almost one-third less than the normal requirement.

The miles can be used on nonstop flights under 700 miles each way on American, American Eagle and AmericanConnection throughout the United States and Canada.

Due to the airlines all cramming people into planes with barely a seat empty on any flights, AA notes that redeeming the miles is of course subject to availability.
