American to partner with JetBlue

American Airlines and JetBlue are joining forces to counteract Delta Airline's growth in the U.S. market. Currently American is trailing Delta as the world's biggest carrier, so this move was a wise one by the airline.

Under the new agreement, AA will receive 12 pairs of takeoff and landing spaces from JetBlue at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. In return, JetBlue will be given eight slots at Washington DC's Reagan International Airport.

Since 2005, Delta has doubled their presence at New York area airports, which has turned up the heat in the already tense battle between Delta and American.

Both airlines recently went back and forth courting Japan Airlines for partnership, with Delta trying to steal JAL away from AA. In the end Japan stayed put with American.
