AirTran Airways announced on their website Wednesday that it will be upping the price of a checked bag to $20.

The increase of $5 will go into effect Wednesday September 1 for coach seats booked August 17 or later.

Ted Hutcheson, a spokesman for the low-cost carrier, said AirTran was increasing the fee due to higher fuel costs.
