Free-for-all seating could be on the way out for Ryanair

Low-cost carrier Ryainair will begin its first experiment with seat assignments on a trial basis over the next few months.

The airline, best known for offering low base fares and charging plenty of fees for extras, will charge customers about $14 (or 10 euros) to reserve seats at the front of the plane and in the exit row.

The seat assignment trial will be put in place on select flights from Dublin in the next few weeks. 24 seats will be made available for assignment on flights from Dublin to London-Gatwick and Malaga, Spain.

After the trial, the system could be expanded or scrapped altogether depending on customer reaction.
